The €10 weekly increase, Living Alone and island increases, and the Christmas bonus.

Sources checked .

Who it affects and when

Audience: Pensioners and recipients of qualifying weekly social welfare payments.

Timing: Main weekly increases: January 2027. Christmas bonus: week starting 7 December 2026.

What was announced

Weekly rates
The maximum rate of most weekly welfare payments and pensions increases by €10. Qualified-adult and reduced-rate payments receive proportionate increases, not necessarily a flat €10 each.
Pension examples
The published maximum State Pension (Contributory) personal rate for someone under 80 rises from €299.30 to €309.30. The State Pension (Non-Contributory) maximum for someone aged 66–79 rises from €288 to €298. Contribution records, means and age determine the actual payable rate.
Additional increases
Living Alone Increase rises by €3 from €22 to €25 weekly. Living on a Specified Island Allowance rises by €5 from €20 to €25.
Christmas bonus
A 100% Christmas bonus is announced for recipients of qualifying payments in the week starting 7 December 2026. Eligibility depends on the payment and scheme rules.

Practical next steps

  1. Check the rate for your specific payment and household additions.
  2. Separate the one-off Christmas bonus from recurring 2027 income.
  3. Use the actual payment start date when building a yearly budget.

Examples

Annualising a weekly change
A €10 increase received for 52 weeks totals €520. It does not describe a part-year claim or a proportionately increased reduced rate.
