Who it affects and when

Audience: Households exporting renewable electricity or considering energy upgrades.

Timing: Budget 2027 measures; grant offers and work schedules follow the individual programme.

What was announced

Microgeneration exemption
The annual exemption for qualifying domestic electricity supplied to the grid increases from €400 to €600. The Department specifies Income Tax, USC and PRSI exemption on qualifying profits. The increase is €200, not €400.
Energy upgrades
The Government overview announces a record €654.5 million for home energy upgrades, including enhanced retrofit and solar supports. This national allocation does not specify a universal new personal grant.

Practical next steps

  1. Distinguish exported-electricity receipts and qualifying profits from bill savings.
  2. Use the actual SEAI or scheme offer and property conditions in a project budget.
  3. Compare your installation cost, grant and measured generation assumptions rather than treating national funding as your grant amount.
