Appliance running cost Calculator

Estimate electricity use with operating hours and duty cycle. This free appliance running cost calculator shows the calculation and its assumptions so you can compare your own figures.

How the appliance running cost calculation works

Energy = watts ÷ 1,000 × hours × days × duty fraction. Cost = kWh × tariff.

Duty cycle accounts for thermostatic switching. Enter the price including applicable taxes; standby use needs a separate run.

Using this calculator

  1. Enter your own figures in the labelled inputs. Keep the currencies, units and time periods consistent.
  2. Choose any applicable rate profile, pattern or assumption shown for this tool. Open additional inputs when relevant.
  3. Review running cost and energy kwh, then read the stated assumptions and eligibility conditions before using the result.
