Towing payload margins Calculator

Compare entered actual masses with plated vehicle and trailer limits. This free towing payload margins calculator shows the calculation and its assumptions so you can compare your own figures.

How the towing payload margins calculation works

Vehicle actual mass includes nose load. Combined mass adds trailer gross mass and subtracts nose load once to avoid double counting.

Entered plated limits must match the specific vehicle and trailer. Axle loads, hitch limits, braking, driver licence permissions and legal towability are not assessed.

Using this calculator

  1. Enter your own figures in the labelled inputs. Keep the currencies, units and time periods consistent.
  2. Choose any applicable rate profile, pattern or assumption shown for this tool. Open additional inputs when relevant.
  3. Review exceeds entered mass limit and train margin kg, then read the stated assumptions and eligibility conditions before using the result.
