Fuel efficiency payback Calculator

Compare fuel options and recover a more efficient car purchase premium. This free fuel efficiency payback calculator shows the calculation and its assumptions so you can compare your own figures.

How the fuel efficiency payback calculation works

Fuel costs use consumption × fuel price × distance. Annual saving deducts second-car extra non-fuel cost; fuel-only distance ignores that cost.

Enter negative extra annual costs to represent second-car savings. Excludes resale values, financing, emissions levies and future fuel price changes.

Using this calculator

  1. Enter your own figures in the labelled inputs. Keep the currencies, units and time periods consistent.
  2. Choose any applicable rate profile, pattern or assumption shown for this tool. Open additional inputs when relevant.
  3. Review annual net saving and simple payback years, then read the stated assumptions and eligibility conditions before using the result.
