The €20,000 childcare-services exemption, child-number cap removal and Nurturing Skills rebates.

Sources checked .

Who it affects and when

Audience: Qualifying home-based childminders and childcare workers undertaking supported training.

Timing: Budget 2027 tax measures, with implementation through the relevant legislation.

What was announced

Income ceiling
The childcare-services Income Tax exemption ceiling increases from €15,000 to €20,000 for qualifying services in the childminder's own home.
Child-number limit
The tax-relief cap on the number of children minded is removed, subject to prevailing regulatory requirements. This does not remove childcare registration, capacity or safeguarding rules.
Nurturing Skills Learner Fund
Qualifying rebates under the fund become exempt from Income Tax, USC and PRSI. The described rebate follows relevant course completion and six continuous months remaining in childcare employment.

Practical next steps

  1. Check the home-based relief's eligibility rather than assuming all childcare turnover is exempt.
  2. Keep receipts and regulatory requirements separate from the tax ceiling.
  3. Confirm fund participation, course and employment conditions before treating a training rebate as due.
