Assumptions and estimates
- 2026 limits. Employee hours may be combined with a partner; self-employed hours do not qualify. Income excludes child maintenance, Child Benefit, children's own income and other prescribed disregards. Include assessable self-employment profit, rent, spousal maintenance and social welfare. Capital itself is not assessed, but income from it can be. A fixed award is normally reviewed after 52 weeks; this is not an award or backdating estimate.
- Method: Average weekly family income is employee pay less prescribed payroll deductions plus other assessable income. Payment is 60% of the 2026 threshold shortfall, minimum €20 when eligible, rounded to a whole euro.
- Estimate, not a DSP decision. At least 38 employee hours per fortnight, employment expected to last 3 months and a qualifying dependent child are required. Self-employed hours do not count. Annualised payment assumes an unchanged 52-week award.
