Masonry mortar volume Calculator

Estimate bed and vertical joint volume in solid masonry. This free masonry mortar volume calculator shows the calculation and its assumptions so you can compare your own figures.

How the masonry mortar volume calculation works

Mortar fraction = 1 − solid face area ÷ joint module face area. Multiply by wall area and depth, then waste.

Assumes full-depth joints and solid rectangular units. Hollow blocks, frogs, bedding practices and thin-joint systems alter usage.

Using this calculator

  1. Enter your own figures in the labelled inputs. Keep the currencies, units and time periods consistent.
  2. Choose any applicable rate profile, pattern or assumption shown for this tool. Open additional inputs when relevant.
  3. Review order volume m3 and order litres, then read the stated assumptions and eligibility conditions before using the result.
