Grazing paddock area Calculator

Estimate grazing allocation from herd demand and removable cover. This free grazing paddock area calculator shows the calculation and its assumptions so you can compare your own figures.

How the grazing paddock area calculation works

Usable grass = (entry cover − residual cover) × utilisation. Daily area = herd demand ÷ usable grass/ha.

Cover readings must use the same calibrated basis. Excludes growth during grazing and rotation, supplementation, soil trafficability and animal nutritional constraints.

Using this calculator

  1. Enter your own figures in the labelled inputs. Keep the currencies, units and time periods consistent.
  2. Choose any applicable rate profile, pattern or assumption shown for this tool. Open additional inputs when relevant.
  3. Review paddock area ha and rotation area ha, then read the stated assumptions and eligibility conditions before using the result.
