Open the Take-home salary to gross pay calculatorWhat to prepare
- Use the net pay you want to receive and say whether it is weekly, monthly or annual.
- Select the tax year and the credits shown on your tax credit certificate.
- Remember that pension and other deductions change the gross needed.
Understand the inputs
- Tax rules
Options: 2026 — published rules; 2027 — Budget announcement (limited scope).
- Assessment
Options: Single; Married, one earner.
The calculation method
Bounded bisection solves the selected-year PAYE engine. Budget 2027 targets requiring gross pay above €70,044 are unsupported until the USC conflict is resolved.
Worked example

Example inputs
- Tax rules
- 2026 — published rules
- Target annual take-home pay (€)
- 40000
- Assessment
- Single
- Employee age
- 35
- Annual employee pension (€)

Calculated example result
- Required Gross Annual
- €50,666.32
- Required Gross Monthly
- €4,222.19
How to interpret the result
The gross figure is the pay that, under the model's assumptions, leaves your target net after income tax, USC and PRSI. It is a planning figure and not an offer of pay or a payroll calculation.
Compare the gross needed for two net targets, or two tax years, with credits unchanged, then check against a recent payslip.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not enter a bank deposit that already includes expenses or bonuses as regular net pay.
- Do not mix weekly and annual figures.
- Credits and cut-offs on your own certificate may differ from the defaults.
